Mpigi District Chairman, Mr. Simon Peter Kawuki, has pledged support to local football by contributing UGX 1.1 million to Mawokota Football Club as the team prepares for the Annual Masaza Cup tournament.
The donation was handed over this week to the club leadership and is aimed at helping Mawokota FC with team welfare, transport, and match preparations as they represent Mpigi in the prestigious Buganda Kingdom competition.
Speaking during the handover, Chairman Kawuki said supporting sports is part of his commitment to youth development and community pride in the district.
*”Mawokota FC carries the name of our people. As a district we must stand behind them. This is a small token to motivate the boys to play with discipline and bring honor to Mpigi,”* Kawuki said.
He also called on other leaders, well-wishers, and businesses in Mpigi to rally behind the team throughout the tournament.
The Mawokota FC management thanked the Chairman for the timely support, noting that resources remain one of the biggest challenges for community teams competing at the Masaza Cup level.
*”This contribution will go a long way in boosting morale. We are asking our fans in Mpigi and Mawokota to come out in big numbers and support the boys,”* a club official said.
Mawokota FC is set to kick off its Masaza Cup campaign in the coming weeks, with hopes of going further than last season and making Mpigi proud.
The Masaza Cup remains one of the biggest grassroots football competitions in Buganda, bringing together teams from all counties to celebrate culture, talent, and unity.
