The inspection was aimed at assessing progress, quality of works, and addressing challenges faced by the contractor and road users.
WHY MUYANGA ROAD MATTERS
Muyanga Road serves as a major feeder road linking communities in Kituntu, Mpigi Town Council, and neighboring areas in Butambala. It is used daily by boda riders, taxi operators, farmers transporting matooke, maize, and coffee, as well as students and patients accessing services.
For years, residents have decried poor drainage, potholes, and impassable sections during the rainy season.
KEY ISSUES ASSESSED DURING A INSPECTION
Accompanied by district technical staff, sub-county leaders, and LC representatives, Chairman Kawuki walked sections of the road to check on:
1. Grading and shaping of the road surface
2. Drainage channels and culvert installation to manage rain water
3. Bush clearing and road reserves to improve safety and visibility
4. Workmanship and materials used by the contractor
CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS
Addressing residents who turned up during the inspection, Chairman Kawuki said the district is committed to improving infrastructure to support trade and service delivery.
“Muyanga Road is not just a road. It is a business route and a lifeline for our people in Mpigi and Butambala. When this road is good, our farmers will get better prices, our children will reach school safely, and our sick will reach health centers on time,” Kawuki said.
He directed the district engineering department to closely supervise the contractor to ensure standards are met and that the project is completed within the agreed timelines. He also called on community members to safeguard the road infrastructure.
“We don’t want people cultivating in road reserves or blocking drainage channels. This road must serve us for many years,” he added.
COMMUNITY RESPONSE
Local leaders in Kituntu welcomed the Chairman’s visit, noting that regular monitoring by political leadership gives confidence that government projects will be delivered.
One resident said: “We have waited for this road for long. If it is completed well, transport to Butambala will be much easier and cheaper.”
DISTRICT COMMITMENT
Chairman Kawuki reaffirmed that infrastructure remains a priority for Mpigi District in the 2026/2027 Financial Year. He noted that the district will continue inspecting other ongoing road works across sub-counties to ensure taxpayers’ money delivers visible results.
The district engineering team assured that mitigation measures will be put in place to keep sections of the road motorable during the construction period.
