KAMPALA — The National Unity Platform (NUP) is mourning the death of Paul Musoke, a 27-year-old party foot soldier who has succumbed to severe burn injuries sustained in what the party says was a brutal attack on his home.
Musoke died on Saturday evening, days after his house was reportedly attacked and set on fire while he was inside.
According to accounts presented by NUP leaders, the door of Musoke’s house was closed from the outside before the building was set ablaze, leaving the young activist trapped inside the burning house.
He suffered severe burns and other injuries before neighbours reportedly rescued him and rushed him to hospital.
Despite efforts to save his life, Musoke did not survive.
His death has now triggered demands for a thorough investigation into what happened, with NUP leaders questioning the circumstances surrounding the fire and calling for the perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice.
KAWUKI DEMANDS ANSWERS
Mpigi District LC5 Chairman Kawuki Peter Awakula Enume, who attended a gathering at NUP headquarters yesterday to pay tribute to Musoke, said he had visited the young activist in hospital only hours before his death.
Kawuki, a lawyer by profession, said the condition and pain Musoke was experiencing underscored the gravity of the attack.
He called for a thorough, independent and credible investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, insisting that whoever was responsible must be held accountable.
The Mpigi district leader joined mourners in demanding answers over how Musoke’s house caught fire and, most importantly, how the young man came to be trapped inside.
BOBI WINE: “A COMMITTED FOOT SOLDIER”
Former NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, described Musoke as “a committed foot soldier” and a disciplined youth leader who had undergone training at the NUP School of Leadership.
Bobi Wine described his death as painful and brutal, while demanding justice for the fallen activist.
Musoke’s death has left the NUP fraternity mourning a young man whose life and political journey were cut short at just 27 years.
NUP LEADERS GATHER TO MOURN
NUP leaders and supporters gathered at the party headquarters yesterday to pay tribute to Musoke.
The function was attended by NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, the party’s Western Vice President, MP Mulyanyama, Chairman Kawuki Peter Awakula Enume and other party leaders and supporters.
For the NUP fraternity, Musoke’s death has transformed a personal tragedy into a demand for answers.
The central question now facing investigators is stark: How did a young man end up trapped inside a burning house after his door was reportedly shut from the outside?
Until that question is conclusively answered, calls for justice are unlikely to fade.
